This policy covers refunds and cancellations for the chapter subscription.
Throughout, "we" means Dativus LLC, contactable at contact@chapter.dativ.us.
There is a 30-day free trial before you are charged anything, so you can find out whether chapter works for the events you watch before spending money. The trial takes a payment method up front and charges nothing during it; cancel before it ends and you are never charged.
If you do pay and change your mind, ask within 14 days and we will refund you. After that, ask anyway if something went wrong - we would rather refund someone than keep money from a person the extension did not work for.
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com, which is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles returns for purchases, so a refund request goes to Paddle.
You can request one:
Either route reaches the same place. Writing to us is not slower, but Paddle is the party that actually moves the money.
You may request a refund within 14 days of the date you were charged. Requests inside that window are granted.
This mirrors the statutory right of withdrawal that consumers in the EU and UK have, and Paddle's own buyer terms. We apply it to everyone, wherever you live, rather than only where the law requires it.
One thing worth knowing about that statutory right: it can be reduced once you have started using a digital service within the withdrawal period. We do not apply that reduction. Using chapter during your first 14 days does not cost you the refund - the trial exists so that trying it is the normal thing to do.
Write to us anyway. We look at these individually, and we will refund where the service did not do what it said it would. In particular:
We are less likely to refund a full year that has been used for most of its length. We are not going to argue with you about a few days.
Subscriptions renew automatically each year. Paddle, who handle the payment, email you a receipt for every charge and send a reminder ahead of a renewal wherever the law requires one.
If a renewal charge surprised you, tell us within 14 days of it and we will refund it, whether or not you had already cancelled. Do not feel you need to build a case for this.
Cancelling and refunding are separate.
Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves your current period intact. You keep access until the period you already paid for runs out, and then it stops. You do not need to time a cancellation close to the renewal date to avoid paying for a year you will not use - cancel whenever you decide, and the access you have paid for stays.
You can cancel from inside the extension, which opens Paddle's customer portal, or by writing to us.
Cancelling on its own does not refund anything. If you want the money back rather than the remaining access, say so.
Deleting your account ends your access immediately, including any paid period still remaining, and erases your personal data.
Ask for the refund before you delete, not after. Once the erasure has run we no longer hold the record that ties you to the order, which makes a refund slower and, in some cases, impossible for us to verify.
Refunds go back to the payment method you used, where that is possible, and are processed within 14 days of approval. Your bank or card issuer may take a few more days to show it.
Refunds are issued in the currency you were charged in. If exchange rates moved between the charge and the refund, the amount in your own currency may differ slightly. That is the card network's doing, not ours.
The 30-day trial charges nothing during the thirty days, but it does take a payment method when you start it, and it does become a paid subscription on its own when the trial ends. Cancel at any point before then and nothing is ever charged, so there is nothing to refund.
If the first charge lands and you did not mean it to, write to us. A renewal nobody intended is exactly the case we refund without argument.
One free trial per customer, per account, email address and payment method. If a trial is cancelled because the payment method has already had one, nothing has been charged and there is nothing to refund - and if that looks wrong to you, write to us and we will put it right.
We may change this policy. We will post the new version here and change the date at the top, and the version in force is the one published when you were charged. If a change significantly affects you we will email you before it takes effect. A refund you were already owed under the old wording stays owed.
Write to contact@chapter.dativ.us. Email is how we answer, and it reaches us faster than anything else.
